Valentijn obtained his BSc in Human Geography and Spatial Planning (UU) in 2022 specializing in heritage and tourism. His bachelor thesis on the dual role of churches as places of worship and tourist attractions in Rome was awarded the biannual thesis award of the Academic Association for Italian Studies in the Netherlands and Flanders [WIS] – being the first bachelor thesis to have ever received this award. Part of the award is a monthlong stay at the KNIR, which he hopes to make productive use of in the near future. In 2023 Valentijn completed his BA in Italian Language and Culture (UU) after having finished an internship at Museum Catharijneconvent. Leaning more to Art History, Valentijn is currently part of the RMa Curating Arts and Cultures – Arts of the Netherlands (VU/UvA) researching early Italian Renaissance art and the artistic relations between Italy and the Low Countries. After being part of the Roma Caput Mundi Summer School at the KNIR, Valentijn is eager to convey his enthusiasm for the institute’s stimulating learning environment to other students. He is always open to answer any questions.
