Title research: A Florentine Merchant in the Far East: Orazio Neretti, Enterprise and Integration in Early Modern East Asian Networks (c. 1580-1620).
The project investigates the Florentine merchant Orazio Neretti and his long stay in East Asia (1583-1619) as a prominent figure in the Portuguese Estado da Índia. Through this case, it explores the processes of economic and cultural exchange, mobility, and integration within the Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, and Southeast Asian worlds, hoping to contribute to the understanding of the first modern empires and global economic-cultural networks.
