About our library

The library is the “beating heart” of our Institute. Specialized in archaeology, history and art history of Rome and Italy, it is the reference point for research and scholarship in these disciplines.

With its classic open-shelf arrangement and largely original interior from 1933, the library offers an ideal space for research and study. The stunning view of the garden enhances the pleasant atmosphere.

The resources and services we provide, together with the international and interdisciplinary environment that characterizes the Institute, make our library a stimulating forge for ideas, projects and experiences.

Our specialized staff offers:

  • Reference: information and bibliographic assistance in person, or via email/telephone.
  • Document delivery: in accordance with legislation governing copyright, reproduction of publications and agreements with providers and licenses.
  • Online resources: access to numerous electronic resources, available on premises, thanks to our service agreement with the University of Groningen.
  • Privileged access to the resources of URBS member libraries for internal guests and, where possible, for our external users.

Our guests, fellows, and staff enjoy 24/7 access to our Library. Non-resident researchers wishing to access our resources can request an appointment online.
