Scholarships

Rome is a true hub of knowledge. There are countless objects, buildings, libraries, institutes and archives with unique source material for research on very diverse themes.
The KNIR has scholarships available annually for Master’s or Research Master’s students who wish to do their thesis research in Rome.

If you are enrolled as a student at one of our partner universities, you can apply for a scholarship with us.* The scholarship consists of a free stay at the KNIR and an allowance for travel and accommodation costs.

The deadline for applications is 15 May and 15 November of each year. Soon after that date, all applications received will be assessed and the results of the selection will be announced within one month. Our scientific staff evaluates the grant applications for relevance, originality and feasibility.

More information on the scholarships and the application procedure can be found on the Scholarships/Grants page.

*Please note: are you studying at a different university? In that case, you are not eligible for a KNIR scholarship. However, it is possible to stay at the KNIR for a fee if you need to be in Rome and its surroundings for your research. Click here for more information.
